Important Security Alert: Protecting Your QuickBooks Online Account…
Recently, we encountered a situation where a client experienced unauthorized access to their QuickBooks Online account, resulting in a fraudulent direct deposit payment. The scammer cleverly disguised the transaction by using an employee’s name and matching typical payment amounts to avoid immediate detection.
To protect your business, we strongly recommend:
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your QuickBooks Online account immediately (as well as all other important logins such as email, social media accounts, bank and credit card accounts, etc.)
- Regularly change your passwords and use strong, unique combinations
- Monitor your bank accounts and all payment notifications sent to your email closely (such as QBO or Bill.com emails)
- Review all employee and vendor payment settings regularly
- Never share passwords via text message or email – this includes with your DMR team
**IMPORTANT**
If you notice any suspicious activity in your accounting system or receive any unexpected payment confirmations, please CALL AND TEXT your DMR bookkeeper immediately. While email is great for routine matters, urgent security concerns require immediate attention through phone and text.
By reconciling all of your accounts and monitoring your emails for strange payment notifications regularly, fraudulent activity is more likely to be found timely. Be aware that scammers are out in full force, especially this time of year!
2025 Standard Mileage Rate Update…
The IRS has set the standard mileage rate for 2025 at 70 cents per mile. Please keep accurate and detailed records of your business mileage to ensure proper tax deductions. Be sure to ask us if you have any questions about appropriate documentation.
